2018 guide to the size of images on social networks

We gather on this page all size dimensions of images on social networks. Photo sizes on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and others have just been updated. You can keep this page as a favorite for easier access to all dimensions of images and photos. We designed it because for any project related to social networks, the same questions arise:

How big is a profile picture on Facebook?
What should the dimensions of the images be in one of the articles?
How big are the cover photos on Twitter?
In the Twitter timeline, what dimensions do the images make?
On Instagram, images make how many pixels?

To facilitate the task of community managers and designers, find below all sizes to know on social networks. We will regularly update this page so that the sizes of the photos on the social networks are correct. Do not hesitate to contact us if you notice a change in the dimensions of the images.

 

Facebook

Facebook recommends downloading JPEG photos with an sRGB color profile, except for profile and cover photos with a logo or text (PNG).

  • Facebook profile picture: 180 × 180 pixels minimum (ratio 1: 1 square)
    Displayed in 170 × 170 pixels on the page, 32 × 32 pixels in avatar
    Remember: profile photos are displayed in square on the page, but in a circular form on publications and advertisements.

 

  • Facebook Cover Photo: 851 × 315 pixels (ratio 2.7: 1)
    Posted in 820x312px on desktop, 640x360px on mobile

 

  • Picture of a web link on Facebook: 1200 × 628 pixels (1.91: 1 ratio)
    Posted in 450 × 236 on pages and 476 × 249 on newsfeed (desktop)

 

  • Facebook shared image: 1200 × 630 pixels
    Displayed with a width of 504px on the page, 470px on the newsfeed

 

  • Facebook news: 1200 × 717 pixels
    Posted in 843 × 504 pixels on your Facebook page

 

  • Facebook event coverage: 1920x1080px
    Sometimes reduced to 470x174px (in the newsfeed)

  • Twitter profile picture: upload a photo of 400x400px,
    Displayed in circle of 200px of diameter on the profile Twitter

 

  • Cover photo Twitter: 1500 × 500 pixels

 

  • Photo on Twitter: choose a photo of 1024px wide

 

  • Displayed on the desktop stream at 440x220px or 506 × 253 pixels (2: 1 ratio)

 

  • Displayed in large format (expanded) in original size if the screen allows it
  • Displayed on the mobile stream with a 1.78: 1 ratio (example: 600 × 338 px)

 

  • Image of a web link (Twitter Cards): 506 × 254 pixels (ratio close to 2: 1)

Editor’s Note: In most cases, we recommend designing images in a ratio of 1: 1.91 to 1: 2 to illustrate his articles in order to obtain a satisfactory rendering when sharing on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
